What type of lighting is best for a 'make up' mirror?

My wife wants me to build a mirror, to be set the wall above a dresser. I have the intention to put the mirror (600 x 600 mm) in a frame. I'll put the lights on and here is my problem. How are they bright? How? top or sides? facing outwards, or 90 degrees to the mirror?

Well, it really depends on the type of day. There are mirrors with settings such as, "day", "Tarde", "Office" ect. Because there are all different types of lighting in the world, to go with a light as in. Or you can get a mirror and light settings that I mentioned with the day and night, and others.
